In March 2018, two ensembles with who I have a close working relationship will perform my chamber works. The Fidelio Trio will perform my Mammals of Southern Africa in Ireland and Wales. The trio commissioned the work with funds from the SAMRO Foundation in 2011, and have performed it around the UK and South Africa, as well as recording it for Metier on my chamber portrait CD Tracing Lines. The performance in Ireland is for the New Music Dublin series at the National Concert Hall on Friday 2 March. The Welsh performance is for the Cardiff event in the CoMA National Festival of Contemporary Music for All 2018, and takes place at the Cardiff University School of Music on Saturday 3 March.
The Signum Quartet, old friends and creative collaborators from Cologne, Germany, will perform my glimpses of a half-forgotten future for the Cape Town Concert Series - the South African premiere of this work which they have previously performed in the UK and Germany over the last two years.
The ensemble I direct and conduct - Cardiff University's Contemporary Music Group - presents the first event in a year-long project to perform and record choral music by Welsh composers.
For this first concert, we will present music by a range of composers, including John Metcalf, Sarah Lewis, Max Davies, Richard Elfyn Jones, Charlie Barber, Gareth Churchill, Guto Puw, Eloise Gynn, Mervyn Burtch, Andrew Taylor, Damian Rees, Pwyll ap Sion and Geraint Lewis.
I have been working with CoMA (Contemporary Music for All), Ty Cerdd and the Fidelio Trio to devise and deliver the Cardiff event for the CoMA national Festival of Contemporary Music for All, which we will present on 2 and 3 March 2018 at Cardiff University.
Two day of participatory workshops and talks for amateur and young performers and composers will be capped by concerts on the Friday night by the ensemble I conduct - Cardiff University Contemporary Music Group - performing contemporary choral music from Wales, and on the Saturday night by the Fidelio Trio.

I'm very honoured to be involved as a conductor in this event honouring the life and legacy of my colleague at Cardiff University, Ken Gloag. Ken was an eminent scholar, whose work on the postmodern in music encompassed studies of contemporary classical music, jazz and popular music. He sadly passed away earlier this year.
The School of Music is presenting a day which includes a symposium, round-table discussions and two concerts on 2 December. In addition to an evening concert by the Cardiff University Jazz Ensemble lead by Huw Warren, the early evening concert will feature contemporary music which Ken studied and wrote about - piano music by Tippett (played by Raymond Clarke), guitar music by Maxwell Davies (played by Christopher Roberts), and two works for small ensemble - Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale" suite, and the Michael Daugherty's "Dead Elvis" (for solo bassoon and ensemble). I will conduct these last two pieces with an excellent group of local professional players, some of whom are alumni of both the university and the Contemporary Music Group which I direct.
Composer Luis Tinoco presents a weekly contemporary music radio programme The Geography of Sound on Portuguese national classical music radio station, Antena 2. On Sunday 19 November, the programme explored works from my chamber music disc, Tracing Lines, performed by the Fidelio Trio, Carla Rees (bass flute) and Patricia Rozario (soprano).
I'm very pleased to have been commissioned by the French quartet Quatuor Capriccio for the 3rd edition of their Festival Capriccio en Maine in Angers, France. They will premiere a new work exploring the idea of capriccio in a special concert on Saturday 9 December 2017. The plan to record the work in early 2018 for Orchid Classics.
After a long gestation period, Retorica (Harriet Mackenzie and Philippa Mo, violin) returns to Cardiff University on 17 April 2018 to premiere "Dances and Chorales", a substantial piece for two violins and live electronics. They also present a new work with fixed film and audio electronics by Wendy Hiscocks, and John McCabe's Spielend (2003).
On 4 November 2017, the Free State Symphony Orchestra will give a performance of Uhambo Olunintsi (Journeys) in the Sand du Plessis Theatre in Bloemfontein, South Africa as part of their Choral Extravaganza concert. I'm particularly pleased about this performance, as the second performance of this work took place in the same venue back in 2005, when the South African National Youth Orchestra gave the second performance under Conrad van Alphen

Luis Tinoco presents a programme of contemporary violin concertos for his series "Geography of Sound" on Portuguese national radio's classical channel Antena 2. Focusing on the recent Mackenzie/Woods/ESO CD on Nimbus, the programme included my "An Eventful Morning Near East London" alongside works from the CD and elsewhere.
